BIO
■ “Crys Lee is a Los Angeles-based artist, writer, and filmmaker.
Born in Germany, but raised in the Midwest, their creative work draws from reflections on identity, growing up in a working-class FAMILY, a decade-long career as a photographer, and questions of our precarious future.
Their films anatomize personal and workplace politics, queer desire, and the normalization of QUIET tragedIES.
Three films in the works: Own, A NARRATIVE shot on 16mm and in post-production, unravels the dark fantasy of a betrayed coworker; Spinning, An in-progress documentary about queer pole-dancing communities; and their next FICTION film in pre-production, NAWALA, EXPLORES AN Immigrant WOman’s NEW LIFE and DESIRES ON HER PATH TO BECOMING AN AMERICAN.
Lee’s work has shown in newspapers, magazines, and on COMMUNITY gallery walls. TheIR ARTS EDUCATION IS ALMOST ENTIRELY MADE POSSIBLE DUE TO GENEROUS COMMUNITY EDUCATORS, MENTORS, AND SCHOLARSHIPS. Lee is a non-profit youth arts educator and a recipient of the Graduate Opportunity Program Fellowship at UCLA, where they are currently pursuing an MFA in film production.”
